@01 Introduction
DiskCat is a simple data base; you can use it to
create automatically and edit archives of the
contents of your discs.
This application has been designed to operate in
the multitasking window environment of the RISC-OS
desktop.
File type &22D is utilised by this application for
any datafiles used. However, the files are
essentially ASCII or text files, and therefore
compatible with !Edit and a wide range of other
applications.
@02 Loading application
Insert DiskCat disc in the drive. Click with
Select on the drive icon in the icon bar to open
the disc directory window. Double click with
Select on the !DiskCat icon. The application
instal its icon in the icon bar.
@03 Making new archives
Click with Select on the application icon in the
icon bar to open the DiskCat window. Then you
follow the next instructions.
@04 Loading data file
Drag the data file icon on the application icon in
the iconbar or on the DiskCat window.
@05 Select work drive
In the DiskCat window click with Select on the
":0" or ":1" button to select a suitable drive for
the discs to catalogue.
@06 Cataloguing disc
Insert in the selected work drive the disc to
catalogue. Click with Select on the "OK" button in
the DiskCat window. If a disc of the same filing
system name of the disc to catalogue already
exists in the archives an error message is shown
and the command is aborted.
Otherwise the application show this name in the
(user) "Disc" (name) icon. Press Return to confirm
the name as user disc name or type in a new user
name and press Return. If a disc of the same user
name already exists an error message is shown and
the program ask you another name.
@07 Editing records
Click with Select on the left arrow-shaped icon in
the DiskCat window to move back one record. Click
with Adjust to display the first record.
To move forward one record click with Select on
the right arrow-shaped icon. Click with Adjust to
display the last record.
@08 Add remark to record
Click with Select on the "Remarks" writable icon
in the DiskCat window, type in a string and press
Return.
@09 Delete record
Click with Menu on the DiskCat window to display
the main menu. Then click with Select on the
"Delete" item. In the dialog box showed click on
the "Cancel" button to abort the command. Click on
the "OK" button to delete the displayed record.
@10 Search record
In the main menu click with Select on the "Search"
option to open the Search window. Then click with
Select on a button to choice the search field. At
last click with Select on the "String" writable
icon, type in the search string and press Return.
To see the found records click with Select on the
arrow-shaped icons in the Search window.
@11 Printing all records
In the Search window click with Select on the
"All" button. In the main menu move the pointer on
the "Print" item arrow to open the Print window.
Click with Select on the "OK" button to start the
printing. Click on the "Cancel" button to abort
the option.
During the printing press the Delete key to stop
it.
@12 Printing selected records
In the Search window click with Select on a search
field button. Type in a search string and press
Return. In the Print window click with Select on
the "OK" button to start the printing. The
"Records" icon display the number of the records
to print.
@13 Saving new data file
In the main menu move the pointer on the "Save"
item arrow to open the Save window. Type in a
valid file name and drag the data file icon from
the Save window to a directory viewer.
@14 Data file auto save
This option lets you automatically save an edited
data file to disc at regular intervals. In the
Save window switch on the "Auto save" button, type
in a number between 1 and 99 in the "Every
minutes" writable icon and press Return. The auto
-save timer only stats when you edit the data
file.
At each time interval an alert box prompts you.
Click on the "OK" button of the alert box to save
the data file. Click on the "Cancel" button to
postpose the saving and restart the auto-save
timer.
@15 Remove all data
Click with Menu on the application icon in the
icon bar to display the icon bar menu. In the icon
bar menu click with Select on the "Clear" item. A
dialog window prompts you. Click on the "OK"
button in the dialog box to remove all data from
memory and create a new archives. Click on the
"Cancel" button to delete the command.
@16 Help utility
Click with Select on the "Help" item in the icon
bar menu to load the DiskCat Help Utility.

@17 Quit application
In the icon bar menu click with Select on the
"Quit" option. If the data file is edited but not
saved an alert box prompts you. Click on the "OK"
button to save the data file. On clicking on the
"Cancel" button you quit the application and lose
all data.
@18 Notice
