  1. @01 Introduction
  2.  
  3. DiskCat  is a simple data base; you can use it  to
  4. create  automatically  and  edit archives  of  the
  5. contents of your discs.
  6. This  application has been designed to operate  in
  7. the multitasking window environment of the RISC-OS
  8. desktop.
  9. File type &22D is utilised by this application for
  10. any  datafiles  used.   However,   the  files  are
  11. essentially  ASCII  or text files,  and  therefore
  12. compatible  with  !Edit and a wide range of  other
  13. applications.

  21. @02 Loading application
  22.  
  23. Insert  DiskCat  disc  in the  drive.  Click  with
  24. Select  on the drive icon in the icon bar to  open
  25. the  disc  directory  window.  Double  click  with
  26. Select  on  the  !DiskCat  icon.  The  application
  27. instal its icon in the icon bar.

  31. @03 Making new archives
  32.  
  33. Click  with Select on the application icon in  the
  34. icon  bar  to  open the DiskCat window.  Then  you
  35. follow the next instructions.

  41. @04 Loading data file
  42.  
  43. Drag the data file icon on the application icon in
  44. the iconbar or on the DiskCat window.

  46. @05 Select work drive
  47.  
  48. In  the  DiskCat window click with Select  on  the
  49. ":0" or ":1" button to select a suitable drive for
  50. the discs to catalogue.
  51. @06 Cataloguing disc
  52.  
  53. Insert  in  the  selected work drive the  disc  to
  54. catalogue. Click with Select on the "OK" button in
  55. the  DiskCat window. If a disc of the same  filing
  56. system  name  of  the disc  to  catalogue  already
  57. exists  in the archives an error message is  shown
  58. and the command is aborted.
  59. Otherwise  the  application show this name in  the
  60. (user) "Disc" (name) icon. Press Return to confirm
  61. the  name as user disc name or type in a new  user
  62. name  and press Return. If a disc of the same user
  63. name  already exists an error message is shown and
  64. the program ask you another name.

  71. @07 Editing records
  72.  
  73. Click with Select on the left arrow-shaped icon in
  74. the  DiskCat window to move back one record. Click
  75. with Adjust to display the first record.
  76. To  move  forward one record click with Select  on
  77. the  right arrow-shaped icon. Click with Adjust to
  78. display the last record.

  81. @08 Add remark to record

  83. Click  with Select on the "Remarks" writable  icon
  84. in  the DiskCat window, type in a string and press
  85. Return.

  91. @09 Delete record

  93. Click  with Menu on the DiskCat window to  display
  94. the  main  menu.  Then click with  Select  on  the
  95. "Delete"  item. In the dialog box showed click  on
  96. the "Cancel" button to abort the command. Click on
  97. the "OK" button to delete the displayed record.

  101. @10 Search record
  102.  
  103. In the main menu click with Select on the "Search"
  104. option  to open the Search window. Then click with
  105. Select  on a button to choice the search field. At
  106. last  click  with Select on the "String"  writable
  107. icon, type in the search string and press Return.
  108. To  see the found records click with Select on the
  109. arrow-shaped icons in the Search window.

  111. @11 Printing all records
  112.  
  113. In  the  Search  window click with Select  on  the
  114. "All" button. In the main menu move the pointer on
  115. the  "Print" item arrow to open the Print  window.
  116. Click  with Select on the "OK" button to start the
  117. printing.  Click  on the "Cancel" button to  abort
  118. the option.
  119. During  the  printing press the Delete key to stop 
  120. it.
  121. @12 Printing selected records

  123. In the Search window click with Select on a search
  124. field  button.  Type in a search string and  press
  125. Return.  In the Print window click with Select  on
  126. the  "OK"  button  to   start  the  printing.  The
  127. "Records"  icon display the number of the  records
  128. to print.

  131. @13 Saving new data file
  132.  
  133. In  the  main menu move the pointer on the  "Save"
  134. item  arrow  to  open the Save window. Type  in  a
  135. valid  file name and drag the data file icon  from
  136. the Save window to a directory viewer.

  141. @14 Data file auto save
  142.  
  143. This  option lets you automatically save an edited
  144. data  file  to disc at regular intervals.  In  the
  145. Save window switch on the "Auto save" button, type
  146. in  a  number  between  1 and  99  in  the  "Every
  147. minutes"  writable icon and press Return. The auto
  148. -save  timer  only  stats when you edit  the  data
  149. file.
  150. At  each  time interval an alert box prompts  you.
  151. Click  on the "OK" button of the alert box to save
  152. the  data  file. Click on the "Cancel"  button  to
  153. postpose  the  saving  and restart  the  auto-save
  154. timer.

  161. @15 Remove all data
  162.  
  163. Click  with  Menu on the application icon  in  the
  164. icon bar to display the icon bar menu. In the icon
  165. bar  menu click with Select on the "Clear" item. A
  166. dialog  window  prompts  you. Click  on  the  "OK"
  167. button  in the dialog box to remove all data  from
  168. memory  and  create a new archives. Click  on  the
  169. "Cancel" button to delete the command.

  171. @16 Help utility

  173. Click  with Select on the "Help" item in the  icon
  174. bar menu to load the DiskCat Help Utility.
  175. For  further  help on using DiskCat use the  Acorn
  176. !Help  application  found on RISC-OS  Applications
  177. Disc 1.

  181. @17 Quit application
  182.  
  183. In  the  icon  bar menu click with Select  on  the
  184. "Quit"  option. If the data file is edited but not
  185. saved  an alert box prompts you. Click on the "OK"
  186. button  to save the data file. On clicking on  the
  187. "Cancel"  button you quit the application and lose
  188. all data.
